State Minimum Wage 2024

The federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. This became effective on July 24, 2009. You can find the provisions for the federal minimum wage in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Wherever discrepancies between federal and state minimum wage rates emerge, the higher rate is applied.

In 2024, 25 states intend to raise their minimum wage rates. The list below showcases each state’s current minimum wage rate as of Jan. 1, 2024, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Alaska $11.73 The minimum wage in Alaska increased from $10.85 per hour to $11.73 on Jan. 1, 2024.
American Samoa Target: $7.25, but varies by Industry The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) applies generally to employment within American Samoa as it does to employment within the U.S. The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007, as most recently amended by H.R. 2617 (Public Law 114-61), sets industry-specific minimum wage rates within American Samoa and provides that additional increases in those minimum wage rates of $0.40 per hour will occur every three years on Sept. 30 until all of the minimum wage rates equal the federal minimum wage.
Arizona $14.35 Arizona's minimum wage increased from $13.85 per hour to $14.35 on Jan. 1, 2024.

California $16 California’s minimum wage, for most employers, increased from $15.50 per hour to $16 on Jan. 1, 2024. Any work in excess of eight hours in one workday, 40 hours in one workweek, or in the first eight hours worked on the seventh day of work in any one workweek shall be paid at the rate of one and a half times the regular pay rate. Any work in excess of 12 hours in one day or eight hours on any seventh day of a workweek shall be paid no less than twice the regular pay rate. Exceptions apply to an employee working pursuant to an alternative workweek adopted pursuant to applicable Labor Code sections and for time spent commuting. (See Labor Code section 510 for exceptions).
Colorado $14.42 The minimum wage in Colorado increased from $13.65 per hour to $14.42 on Jan. 1, 2024.
Connecticut $15.69 The minimum wage in Connecticut increased from $15 per hour to $15.69 on Jan. 1, 2024. In restaurants, for the seventh consecutive day of work, premium pay is required at time and a half the minimum rate.
Delaware $13.25 The minimum wage in Delaware increased from $11.75 per hour to $13.25 on Jan. 1, 2024.
District of Columbia $17 The minimum wage in Washington, D.C., increased from $16.50 per hour to $17 on Jan. 1, 2024.
Florida $12 On Sept. 30, 2023, the minimum wage in Florida increased from $11 per hour to $12. On Sept. 30, 2024, Florida’s minimum wage is scheduled to increase to $13 per hour.
Georgia $7.25 The state minimum in Georgia is $5.15. Employers subject to the FLSA must pay the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour.

Michigan $10.33 The minimum wage in Michigan increased from $10.10 per hour to $10.33 on Jan. 1, 2024.
Minnesota $10.85/ $8.85 The minimum wage in Minnesota increased from $10.59 per hour to $10.85 for large companies (those earning more than $500,000 in revenues) and from $8.63 per hour to $8.85 for small companies (those earning less than $500,000 in revenues) on Jan. 1, 2024. 
Mississippi $7.25 Tied to the federal minimum wage.
Missouri $12.3 The minimum wage in Missouri increased from $12 per hour to $12.30 on Jan. 1, 2024. In addition to the exemption for federally covered employment, the law exempts, among others, employees of a retail or service business with gross annual sales or business is done of less than $500,000. Premium pay is required after 52 hours in seasonal amusement or recreation businesses.
Montana $10.30/$4 The minimum wage in Montana increased from $9.95 per hour to $10.30 on Jan. 1, 2024. A business not covered by the FLSA whose gross annual sales are $110,000 or less may pay $4 per hour. However, if an individual employee is producing or moving goods between states or otherwise covered by the FLSA, that employee must be paid the greater of either the federal minimum wage or Montana's minimum wage. 
Nebraska $12 The minimum wage in Nebraska increased from $10.50 to $12 on Jan. 1, 2024. 
Nevada $11.25/ $10.25 The minimum wage increased from $10.50 per hour to $11.25 for companies not offering qualified health insurance and from $9.50 per hour to $10.25 for those offering qualified health insurance on Jan. 1, 2024. Effective July 1, 2024, a uniform minimum wage of $12 per hour for all employees is scheduled to occur. 
New Hampshire $7.25 Tied to the federal minimum wage. A tipped employee of a restaurant, hotel, motel, inn, or cabin who customarily and regularly receives more than $30 a month in tips directly from the customer will receive a base rate from the employer of not less than 45% of the applicable minimum wage.
New Jersey  $15.13/$13.73 The minimum wage in New Jersey increased from $14.13 per hour to $15.13 for companies with seven or more employees on Jan. 1, 2024. The minimum wage is $13.73 per hour for seasonal and small employers who employ fewer than six employees.
New Mexico $12 N/A
New York State / Upstate $16/$15

The minimum wage in New York minimum wage increased from $13.20 to $15 on Jan. 1, 2024. In New York City, Nassau County, Suffolk County, and Westchester County, the minimum wage is $16.

Under the new hospitality regulations, residential workers ("live-in workers") are entitled to overtime for hours worked over 40 in a payroll week, instead of the prior 44-hour requirement. Therefore, overtime hours for all nonexempt workers are now any hours worked over 40 in a payroll week.

Employers operating a factory, mercantile establishment, hotel, restaurant, freight/passenger elevator, or theater; or a building employing security guards, janitors, superintendents, managers, engineers, or firemen must provide 24 hours of consecutive rest each week. Domestic workers are entitled to 24 hours of consecutive rest each week, and receive premium pay if they work during such period.

Ohio $10.45/ $7.25 The minimum wage in Ohio increased from $10.10 per hour to $10.45 for employers with gross annual receipts of $385,000 or more on Jan. 1, 2024. Companies earning less than $385,000 per year can pay the federal minimum wage rate of $7.25 per hour. 
Oklahoma $7.25 / $2.00 Tied to the federal minimum wage. Employers of 10 or more full-time employees at any one location and employers with annual gross sales exceeding $100,000, irrespective of the number of full-time employees, are subject to federal minimum wage. All others are subject to the state minimum wage of $2 (OK ST T. 40 § 197.5).
Oregon $14.20/$15.45/$13.20 The minimum wage in Oregon increased from $13.50 to $14.20 on Jan. 1, 2024. In the metro Portland area, the minimum wage is $15.45. In non-urban counties, the minimum wage is $13.20. Premium pay is required after 10 hours a day in nonfarm canneries, driers, or packing plants and in mills, factories, or manufacturing establishments (excluding sawmills, planning mills, shingle mills, and logging camps). 
Pennsylvania $7.25 Tied to the federal minimum wage. 
Puerto Rico $9.5 The minimum wage in Puerto Rico is scheduled to increase from $9.50 to $10.50 on July 1, 2024. 
Rhode Island $14 The minimum wage in Rhode Island increased from $12.25 per hour to $14 on Jan. 1, 2024. State law requires time-and-a-half premium pay for work on Sundays and holidays in retail and certain other businesses.

South Dakota $11.2 The minimum wage in South Dakota increased from $10.80 per hour to $11.20 on Jan. 1, 2024.

Wisconsin $7.25 Tied to the federal minimum wage. 
Wyoming 7.25 Because the Wyoming minimum wage ($5.25 per hour) is less than the national minimum wage of $7.25 per hour, workers are entitled to the higher minimum wage of $7.25.
